Buxton shoppers wishing to have their blood pressure tested can drop in for a free check at The Spring Gardens Shopping Centre on Saturday 18 April, courtesy of the town’s Rotary Club working with the Stroke Association. They are staging a similar event the day before in The Dome

A blood pressure test station will be set up in the main shopping mall and anyone can call in for a check that takes only a few minutes. All results are entirely confidential and are carried out by skilled nursing staff behind screens.

The event is organised by Dr John Harry, of Buxton Rotary Club, who said: “This is our fifth year in Buxton and we are hoping to improve on last year’s total of 200 tests. This is a national event and it is hoped that 30,000 people will take the test throughout the UK.”

Diana Golding, manager of The Spring Gardens Shopping Centre, is delighted to be hosting the event for the first time. “Saturday is our busiest day so the demand for tests will be high. The town is very busy as we are benefiting from the fact that more people are holidaying in the UK this year. The 18th April is the end of the Easter week which will further boost numbers in the centre.”
