The owners of the UK’s first plants-for-free gardening website believe the recession will boost interest.
plantsreunited.co.uk offers gardeners the opportunity to swap, sell or buy plants and seeds between members. It is free to join and since the site went live last year a whole range of plants, garden ornaments and seeds have been traded – most for the price of the postage stamps.
“With the national economic downturn many gardeners, like everyone else, are seeking ways to save a few pounds,” says James Arrowsmith, co-founder of plantsreunited. “Using the site is simplicity itself. If you are looking for some particular plants, or have too many of a certain variety, put the information on the site for free and sit back and wait. You have absolutely nothing to lose.”
