As the days get shorter and temperatures drop, grass growth begins to slow down meaning it will soon be time to retire the mower back to the shed.
But before it goes into hibernation for the winter, John Deere is advising gardeners to ensure petrol machines are given a thorough self-service so you can welcome the first cut of spring with a healthy mower.
Maintaining the mower prior to storage will save a lot of time and money in the long run. Performing a few simple maintenance tasks can make the world of difference, also check the blades for any visible wear and tear and remove any cuttings.
John Deere’s Home Maintenance Kits are simple to use and ideal for giving your lawnmower a quick self-service. The kits have been adapted to suit different engines ensuring users get the right parts for their machine.
Kits include oil, spark plugs and filters (for air, fuel and oil as required); the convenient packages have everything you need to service your mower before the winter break.
John Deere’s homeowner territory manager, Dan Barber, says: “A simple self-service on mowers once each year can make a huge difference to the lifespan of a lawnmower. Machines used on larger lawns will require more frequent attention.
“If gardeners are not comfortable carrying out this work they can speak to their local John Deere dealer to arrange a service by qualified technicians.”
Checking the engine oil level regularly throughout the mowing season is vital – never run a machine that is low on oil. Always use the correct grade of oil recommended by the engine producer.
John Deere advises gardeners to have their mower serviced according to the schedule in the operator’s manual. Most John Deere lawntractors have a hourmetre to make it easy to monitor mower usage times; ensuring machines are serviced according to the schedule.
Regular inspections by an approved John Deere dealer will also ensure petrol lawnmowers remain damage-free, reliable and environmentally friendly. This will prolong the life of the mower, reduce emissions and cut fuel consumption.
Home Maintenance Kits and servicing support are available from the 200+ official John Deere dealerships. To locate your local dealer call 0800 085 25 22 or visit www.johndeere.co.uk.
