As a PR agency that has many clients in the gardening and horticulture industry, it is no surprise that the RHS Chelsea Flower Show is one of our favourite events of the year.
We were delighted when Hillier, Chelsea’s most successful exhibitor in the history of the show, asked us to handle the pr for its award-winning Chelsea exhibit in 2017 and come up with a ‘big idea’ to create something of a spectacle in the garden. We came up with The Memory Tree, which you can read more about here.
We’re even more excited to be helping them to do the same again this year.
Hillier tasked us with creating an idea that would get people talking in the run up the show, be interactive and engaging on the day, entice the media and public along to the garden and support its charity partner in the process.
So, we contacted 15-year-old art prodigy Kieron Williamson, also known as ‘Mini Monet’. Kieron’s first painting sold for a phenomenal £14,000 when he was just six years old; he has featured extensively on worldwide television, websites and in newspapers and his work has been secured for many prestigious private collections, including Royalty.
Hillier’s theme for the garden this year is ‘inspiration’, so we thought it would be a perfect fit if Kieron was present on the exhibit throughout the show to paint scenes from the garden. Hillier loved the idea, and Kieron’s artwork will be auctioned after the show with proceeds going to its charity partner Wessex Cancer Trust.
There’s just over a month to go and preparations are in full swing – and have been ever since the 2017 show ended! With lots of people working on the garden, both on and off the scenes, here’s a glimpse and some of the numbers behind what it takes to create an award-winning Chelsea Flower Show garden:
We have achieved lots of coverage for Hillier so far, and have even more in the pipeline ahead of the show so stay tuned!
We are also organising a press day for journalists and bloggers to visit Hillier’s Nursery site and get an exclusive behind the scenes look at the history of the company and what it takes to design and plan a Chelsea garden.
